I’m a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. When my son started elementary school, I started college at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Five years later, I earned an MBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Chicago.
I spent 10 years working in corporate America. My last job was as Director of Technical & Administrative Services, Science & Technology Labs for a major manufacturing company. After those plush employment days, I began to learn the real challenges of meeting a payroll — my own.
I’m a serial entrepreneur who has been involved in developing over 30 companies. I work with emerging businesses' boards of directors on strategic and operations planning. I’ve maintained a home office for the past two decades. I’m a life-long student of things fun, complex, and collaborative.

[12:52:42 PM] Carol Deckert says: As a Networking Coach, I just added a new off-line, face-to-face referral group in January 2007 to my list of services. RUN meets in Lancaster, PA on a weekly basis to pass qualified referrals. No leads, no tips just qualified referrals, based on developing professional relationships. People are the focus, not leads. This is an exclusive group, only one person per professional category is allowed.
Teaching the member how to not waste time on contacts that either do not know who the person is that referred you; don't know why you are calling; is not the decision-maker for your product/service; and most importantly does not have money to pay for your product/service produces more qualified referrals. Quality is much more important than quantity.
As a coach, I educate the members to tell us what they do; not to sell us – how they solve problems for their clients, solve their pain, and to do it in a story-like manner. Making it repeatable, we produce qualified referrals. Although RUN is a membership-based organization (with annual dues required), I also include a one-hour monthly coaching session, one on one with each of the members. Education is a large part of each meeting with at least one meeting per month focused on a networking topic including a round-table discussion question and answer session.
