gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:10): How about we talk about different networking formus
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:10): What is your opinion on where best for WAHMs to network
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:10): ok, let's do that
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:10): What is your opinion of Facebook, SisterWoman, LinkedIn, etc?
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:11): Probably Facebook would get them the most exposure - but I really am a big fan of LinkedIn
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:11): What is SisterWoman - never heard of that one
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:11): SisterWoman's founder was the speaker at our Fall Fling
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:12): oh, I missed that fling so I was not aware of her
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:12): sorry, closing the PM again
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:12): do you have the URL to SisterWoman?
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:13): Why would you say Facebook is a better exposure than LinkedIn?
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:13): I thought that was for young people
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:13): mostly
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:13): Although they are not forums, like the others, I think networking on the Skype rooms is a great way to network!
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:13): www.SisterWoman.com
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:13): I like that one
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:13): FaceBook is for businesses too and is growing rapidly - more and more people are entering that arena and building business relationships
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:14): although MentoringWAHMs has a couple of features that some of the others don't offer, like the guestbook on the home page
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:15): Ryze is one of the oldest and I love the WIN network there the best
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:15): LinkedIn has more than 18 million subscribers and I think to be effective with LinkedIn you really need to join several of the discussion forums and really let people know you - how you write, how you respond to questions - the comments you post, etc.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:15): although there are a couple of others right there on the top of the list at Ryze
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:15): MentoringWAHMS does have some great features, although I really don't think it is marketed heavily enough.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:16): I was told yesterday that LinkedIn has brought old friends together and is a terrific place to network.
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:16): Ryze is good but I'm hearing in the other forums that people are leaving Ryze because it is too chatty - acknowledging birthdays and everything - with each person typing in the "me, toos" and not really discussing business. Just what I'm hearing.
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:17): I don't get a chance to get on to Ryze a whole lot but do try to read and catch up at the end of the week as to what happened.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:17): Yes, I think now that we have alternative, Ryze is indeed loosing ground.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:17): I will never leave WIN though
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:17): I wish there were more hours in the day to get to everything.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:17): :D
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:17): This is a problem for many of us.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:17): We need to create a schedule
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:17): and stick to it.
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:18): I think WINning Sisters is great and the people are awesome and very supportive so I'm staying there also. Some of the other boards have a little more business discussions going on.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:18): You have the link to the WINning Sisters board?
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:18): I agree- I make it a point to put it on my calendar when I know something specific is happening (like this chat) and the rest I get to when I can fit it in?
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:18): on Yuwie?
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:19): I am in the forum, is that what you are referring to?
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:19): Yes, I am on Yuwie - I think you were the one who invited me.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:19): The 'club'
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:19): I think that is where you are
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:19): Yes, the Yuwie club, WINning Sisters
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:19): where should I be?
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:19): I post but it doesn't seem anyone responds, hardly.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:20): I would love to see more activity there
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:20): Maybe the chatter needs stepped up about that club - maybe in the regular forums - keep bringing it up and talking about it there
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:20): What do you think are some of the other networks that are worth visiting?
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:21): PM is driving me crazy today - dropping down like every 3 seconds!
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:21): grrr
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:21): Some of the other networks on Ryze or where?
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:21): period
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:21): like Ecademy
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:22): I also participate in Heidi Richard's HERmastermind on Ryze, I don't participate in Ecademy because I don't feel enough is there to pay for the membership - they only let you have a trial free period
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:22): and Adland Pro, Open BC which is going by another name now
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:23): I am on LinkedIn, Ryze, FaceBook, Yuwie, Twitter, Konnects
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:23): I agree, I tried them and they keep sending me emails even though I never signed up for the program after the trial.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:23): Let's talk about Twitter
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:23): It seems to be a hot topic
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:23): AdlandPro I was on quite a while ago and seemed to be receiving a lot of spam so I dropped it and the spam slowed down!
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:23): But to me I think it is a waste.
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:24): Twitter is just fun for me - I downloaded a little book about it, haven't had a chance to even look at it so I'm limping along there.
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:24): I follow people after they request to follow me but I haven't seen what exactly that does yet. I put up there what I'm doing - hoping that as a mini-billboard (I think you are limited to 140 character) that I can attract some attention
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:25): Do you Twitter?
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:25): I am a member, but don't, no
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:25): I didn't see the benefit
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:25): I have not even looked at the list of the people I'm following so you know I don't pay a whole lot of attention to it
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:25): You can spend too much time posting what you're doing
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:25): rather than working
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:26): I don't know if there is one YET - it seems to be growing in popularity
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:26): Yes, you really have to be time concious of what you do.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:26): I will have to see what our Guest Speaker next week has to say about it. She is rated in the top 5 of Twitter followers
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:26): I actually now block off time in my calendar to visit my Skype rooms, visit the groups that I don't regularly get to and do what I can in that time frame.
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:27): Since she is in the top 5, I would love to hear what she says on that
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:27): Most of my LinkedIn time, I do in the evenings, when I use my laptop while I'm sitting watching TV with hubby.
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:28): So, I'm keeping up with my messages there daily. I accept invitations that are sent to me about every other day and I usually have between 40-60 at a time that I respond to and since I send personalized messages with every acceptance I make, it does take time
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:28): So IYHO LinkedIn, and Facebook are good bets
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:28): So I make it a point to do that 3 times a week - I can watch TV and accept invitations and post my responses then
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:29): Yes
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:29): This PM is driving me nuts!
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:29): Yes, they are the two I seem to do the most with these days
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:29): have you heard of Selfgrowth?
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:29): When I go to any Ryze forums, I look to see the new member intros and try to post to their guestbooks
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:29): No, what is Selfgrowth?
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:30): That I think is very important
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:30): see who is new and who has visited your Ryze page recently and then responding
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:30): Selfgrowth.com
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:30): You register to be accepted as an Expert
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:31): then you accept and invite other Experts to join your circle
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:31): I used to just welcome them in the chat room, but I think it is better to post that welcome in their guest book - I get more response that way - have had a lot requesting me to be their friend and to network with them. SInce I only have the free version of Ryze, I always respond and give them my direct email if they are interested in networking with me
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:32): Cool - I'll have to check that one out! I really want to get involved in some of these networks where I can promote my networking expertise to be considered an expert
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:32): I'll send you an invitation
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:32): I think you have to be referred
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:32): I signed up as a mentor and a coach on the Women's Support Team that just launched
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:32): Oh a new one!
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:32): Great - I would love an invitation! Thanks!
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:33): can you post the URL for the record, please
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:33): Yes, I'll have to go and get that link for you - There were 2 other coaches, myself and Paula Constantino (the founder) that were interviewed on Tonya Ramsey's Self-Talk Radio program last weeek.
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:33): Yes, I'll go get it - be right back
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:34): k
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:35): http://www.womenssupportteam.com/ This is a great site - it's all about TEAM - Together Each Achieves More - support for women in all areas of business - coaches/mentors of all types - and Paula Constantino is awesome!
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:37): sending your invite. brb
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:39): ok sent
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:39): wonderful.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:40): I know the WINning Sisters would be accepted as a resource for that network
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:40): perhaps you can mention it
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:40): I don't think I have heard of Paula Constantino
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:40): have I?
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:41): I surely can do that - Paula Constantino is one of my direct connections on LinkedIn - she lives in MD just outside of DC and is a retired attorney. She just loves putting people together!
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:41): me too!
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:41): If you want an intro to her, I'd be happy to do that!
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:41): That is one of the reasons for the WINning Sisters
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:41): as you well know, as our newest BIG Sister!
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:41): :D
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:41): Yes I know! LOL!
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:42): I think a formal introduction would be nice.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:42): I believe in Formal Introductions. Guess I am just old school.
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:42): Check out that website and look at the different opportunties and give me your opinion. I can definitely do a formal invitation - would you like a phone intro or a LI intro or a written email intro - which do you prefer?
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:43): I could also do a 3-way conference call on the phone line
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:43): I prefer voice, but text is fine.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:43): let me check out the site first
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:43): then I will know what to talk about
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:43): :D
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:44): Heidi Richards has a WECAI e-Wednesday chat starting in 15 min.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:44): ok, I think we are overtime anyway
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:44): You tell me what you would like, and I will do it! And would be very happy to do that!
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:44): Heidi Richards is wonderful too.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:44): Please post her URL
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:44): yeah, I have to get a few things done before the e-Wednesday chat - I want to support all my buddies
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:44): ok, hang on
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:45): thank you. And thank you for coming to Networking 101 today. Don't forget, next week the Guest Speaker will be speaking on Web2.0 and Twitter
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:48): To join online visit http://www.wecai.org/eWednesdayChat.exe or call the teleconference bridge line at (641) 715-3840
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:48): Super. Have a WINning Sisters week.
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:48): bye for now
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:48): Here is another site to check out: Powerful You! Women's Network info!powerfulyour.com
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:49): wow!
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:49): thanks
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:49): Thanks Ginger - you too - we'll chat soon. Thanks for networking with me today!
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:49): loverly
caroldeckert (2008/02/20 - 13:49): you are very welcome! C-ya!
gmarks (2008/02/20 - 13:49): bye
