I can't stay long because we're right int the middle of school. Sharilee Guest : Hi, Deena! Deena Gainor : But how could I miss YOU! Sharilee Guest : What do you teach? Deena Gainor : Hi, Sharilee. I am actually homeschooling my kiddos. Sharilee Guest : Excellent! You have lucky kids! Deena Gainor : Don't know if they always think that, lol! Deena Gainor : I'm a bit of a slave driver. Sharilee Guest : Of course they don't always realize it now-- but they will! ;-) Kristen Beireis : Kristen Beireis : Hard to see you as a slave driver. Deena Gainor : LOL! Not for them, Kristen. Deena Gainor : I hear you, Gingee! Sharilee Guest : Someday they will be grateful. I just spend the morning with our new PTSA Youth Leadership team. When they said why they were there the most common answer was, "My Mom told me to come!" Kristen Beireis : hehe I bet. When I was a Teacher, students use to call me a slave driver. Sharilee Guest : I hear you, Georgia. Kristen Beireis : I heard u Deena Gainor : Kristen...now it's my turn. I can't imagine anyone thinking of YOU as a slave driver, lol! Sharilee Guest : I guess I do-- Kristen Beireis : lol! Deena Gainor : Gingee - no mike today. Kristen Beireis : No mic Deena Gainor : Or Mic...lol. Sharilee Guest : I just went to it separately-- Kristen Beireis : Passion and heart Kristen Beireis : nope. Deena Gainor : Nope. Sharilee Guest : Nope... I just clicked on the link. Kristen Beireis : Noper. Sharilee Guest : Nope. Kristen Beireis : *giggle* Kristen Beireis : Computers, can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em. Kristen Beireis : Okay, maybe those with OFFLINE businesses can scrape by without 'em. Kristen Beireis : Sharilee Guest : I can't imagine living without them-- even for my off-line activities! Kristen Beireis : still not there. Sharilee Guest : I'm getting the same. Deena Gainor : Sorry, Gingee. Kristen Beireis : *waving* Sharilee Guest : http://www.bookwise.com/nonprofits Deena Gainor : http://www.myglobalgetaways.com - This is my newest, so there are still some corrections that need to be made. Kristen Beireis : http://www.AmazingSteps.com Ginger Marks : http://www.DocUmeant.net Kristen Beireis : Hellooooo! Kristen Beireis : welcome to Ryze 101! Ginger Marks : helllllloooo! Kristen Beireis : Sharilee Guest : Hello, Kristen! Ginger Marks : Go ahead Kristen Ginger Marks : Deena Gainor : Oops...did Kristen get booted? Ginger Marks : oops Ginger Marks : I hope that isn't setting a trend! Sharilee Guest : Oops! It's hard to talk when you've been booted! :-) Kristen Beireis : Sorry about that! Ginger Marks : lol Ginger Marks : welcome back Kristen Kristen Beireis : My keyboard froze up. Kristen Beireis : Didn't like copy/paste. Sharilee Guest : We missed you Kristen! Welcome Back! Ginger Marks : more grrrrs. lol Kristen Beireis : Let's try that again. Kristen Beireis : I'm Kristen Beireis. Kristen Beireis : I help business owners who struggle to find ongoing success. Kristen Beireis : I help clients find fulfillment and their own personal power in all aspects of business... Kristen Beireis : so they are able to share their own amazing-ness with the rest of the world. Kristen Beireis : Kristen Beireis : Today we are talking about consistency. Kristen Beireis : How many of you have your stomach drop when I say that word. Kristen Beireis : consistency... Kristen Beireis : consistency... Kristen Beireis : consistency.. Kristen Beireis : Kristen Beireis : Any marketing guru will tell you that consistency is very important to the success of your business, right? Kristen Beireis : They say... Kristen Beireis : "Market consistently.... Kristen Beireis : Network on a regular basis... Kristen Beireis : Make sure you are keeping up with your newsletter and/or blog.... Kristen Beireis : Anyone else want to chime in on where you MUST be consistent? Deena Gainor : Thank you cards. Kristen Beireis : right! Sharilee Guest : Consistently put in time and effort (and do it effectively, of course.) Kristen Beireis : what else? Deena Gainor : Follow up phone calls. Sharilee Guest : Sometimes people think that part-time or working from home means they can work whenever-- and it never happens. Kristen Beireis : lol! Right Sharilee...be consistent with your available time. Sharilee Guest : For me it involves consistent uploading to the Network. Kristen Beireis : I don't disagree. It IS important to be consistent. Sharilee Guest : along with all the others you have mentioned... and consistent planning! Kristen Beireis : However, I DO disagree when consistency COSTS you something. Kristen Beireis : In our daily business and personal lives we have LOTS of things to do, right? Kristen Beireis : We constantly make choices. Kristen Beireis : We are always trying to "do the right thing." Kristen Beireis : First of all there is no "right thing" there is only... Kristen Beireis : what works for you! Kristen Beireis : Sometimes, we choose to sacrifice important things in life, in order to be consistent in business. Kristen Beireis : I used to sacrifice lunches in order to consistently do networking. Kristen Beireis : Ugh! Kristen Beireis : Was I STARVING when my husband got home at the endn of the day! Kristen Beireis : What are some things YOU might sacrifice in order to BE consistent? Deena Gainor : Sometimes I sacrifice sleep... Ginger Marks : sleep is a biggie. Kristen Beireis : I'll be that keeps you fresh, Deena. Deena Gainor : LOL! Kristen Beireis : Ginger Marks : especially when clients are one one coast and me on the other. LOL Kristen Beireis : What else do we sacrifice? Ginger Marks : time with loved ones Deena Gainor : Time with kids... Sharilee Guest : I have to be really careful to remember why I work from home and walk away from the computer and work when the kids get home from school or need me. Ginger Marks : lunch with girlfriends Deena Gainor : I agree, Sharilee. Kristen Beireis : that connection time with people we care about...that's not important! Kristen Beireis : Ginger Marks : lol Deena Gainor : Sharilee Guest : My son is studying the state/capitals and asks me every day to 'study with him'. I have to remind myself that's why I'm doing what I'm doing and take the time even though I already KNOW my states and capitals! Ginger Marks : you have to prioretize Kristen Beireis : What are the tears for Deena...a little grieving? Kristen Beireis : Right...priority! Kristen Beireis : You know, when it comes to "choosing" it's about finding the right balance. Kristen Beireis : When you START that very first newsletter or blog... Kristen Beireis : make sure it's on a schedule you WANT to keep. Kristen Beireis : It doesnt' behoove you to start a daily blog... Deena Gainor : I've just realized how very important it is to keep your priorities in order...meaning family first. Kristen Beireis : if you do not want to carve out the time in your schedule to write it every day. Kristen Beireis : Yes, DEENA! Priorities are what keep you on track with everything. Ginger Marks : I can't imagine having more than one blog! Kristen Beireis : Exactly! Kristen Beireis : Make sure when you are networking and signing up for group after group or creating blog after blog... Kristen Beireis : that you are not OVER-COMMITING yourself to checking groups and writing blogs on a regular basis. Kristen Beireis : You want to make sure that it all fits in your schedule BEFORE you even start. Ginger Marks : welcome Eva Kristen Beireis : Hey Eva, welcome! Eva Abreu : Hi everyone! Kristen Beireis : SOMETIMES, we set things up exactly how we want them and then... Kristen Beireis : something changes and we need to choose again. Kristen Beireis : Sometimes that means sacrificing consistency. Kristen Beireis : Is there ever a time when consistency is WORTH sacrificing? Kristen Beireis : Hmmm...what about those priorities we talked about? Sharilee Guest : During our weekly business training a couple of weeks ago Robert Allen brought up a point I had never thought of. He was having us identify our perfect customer and one of the areas he said to identify was what they would want from us-- is it what we would be willing to give. Kristen Beireis : Could those change how consistent we are? Kristen Beireis : Exactly! If you choose to work with customers that want you to be available on a consistent basis and your schedule doesn't allow for that, are you REALLY going to be able to work with them? Ginger Marks : they should Sharilee Guest : I had never thought about looking for customers who would want what I want to give them-- and not more! Customers who would fit with my schedule and timeframe, etc. It really changed the way I look at my business and potential customers. Kristen Beireis : Exactly, set your business up so that YOU can handle the way it works for YOU. Ginger Marks : or get help Ginger Marks : lol Kristen Beireis : personally, I can't handle consistent appointments. Kristen Beireis : My schedule changes every week... Kristen Beireis : so I schedule 3 sessions a month that are scattered. Kristen Beireis : Not at set times and days... Kristen Beireis : So, when a client requests a weekly session, I know they are not my client. Kristen Beireis : Okay, getting back to my question... Kristen Beireis : Are there times when it's WORTH sacrificing consistency? Sharilee Guest : YES! Ginger Marks : yes Kristen Beireis : When Ginger Marks : life gets in the way sometimes Ginger Marks : death too Kristen Beireis : *playing devils advocate* Kristen Beireis : yes, but business must go on and if you miss that newsletter, you'll lose subscribers! Ginger Marks : that's what VAs are for. Kristen Beireis : LOL! Kristen Beireis : Ah, so a system is in place to KEEP you consistent! Kristen Beireis : Great! Kristen Beireis : That's a way to get your cake and eat it to. Kristen Beireis : You can be inconsistent, but someone else is keeping with it for you. Sharilee Guest : I 'work' to live, not live to work! And even then-- only if I'm enjoying it. If it becomes drudgery, it's not worth my time. Eva Abreu : sometimes, we might have a big project that comes in, with a definite start and finish date. That can throw off our schedules... Kristen Beireis : Sharilee..yupper! Kristen Beireis : Eva, Kristen Beireis : GREAT point! Kristen Beireis : Sounds like you've made a choice there Eva... Kristen Beireis : Your current clients are more important than keeping consistency with other tasks. Kristen Beireis : So, everyone.... Kristen Beireis : What's MORE important that consistency, to YOU? Kristen Beireis : Than, I mena. Kristen Beireis : mean. Kristen Beireis : Sharilee Guest : my KIDS! Deena Gainor : Family and clients Sharilee Guest : my SANITY! Ginger Marks : yes! Deena Gainor : Lol, Sherilee! Sharilee Guest : Eva Abreu : Going with the flow! Ginger Marks : sometimes I just need to get some fresh air Kristen Beireis : How about necessities, like sleep, food and breaks. Ginger Marks : friendships too Sharilee Guest : When I'm losing it--- it doesn't serve ANYONE's highest good! Eva Abreu : Seizing an opportunity that unexpectedly comes your way Kristen Beireis : So, relationships, sanity, flexibility, seizing the moment... Kristen Beireis : So, here's my challenge to all of you.... Kristen Beireis : Write down all the things you are UNWILLING to sacrifice for consistency. Kristen Beireis : Then, for the next week... Kristen Beireis : I challenge you to hold true to that list... Kristen Beireis : do NOT cross the line and sacrifice.... Kristen Beireis : keep these priorities MORE important... Kristen Beireis : as you make choices and look at your "to-do" list. Kristen Beireis : Do you accept my challenge? Deena Gainor : Kristen Beireis : Deena's in! Kristen Beireis : Anyone else? Ginger Marks : sometimes when Philip, my husband, wants my attention I get annoyed with him, cuz I'm in the middle of something. I need to control that. Sharilee Guest : Absolutely! Eva Abreu : on board with it! Ginger Marks : yupper Kristen Beireis : Ginger, so what's the point that Philip becomes more important than consistency? THAT's your line. Ginger Marks : Kristen Beireis : Awesome! I believe this is an important part of keeping our businesses going while still honoring who we are every step of the way. Kristen Beireis : As you go through week, I encourage you to post your experience on WIN. Kristen Beireis : Feel free to e-mail me, if you want - Coach@AmazingSteps.com. Kristen Beireis : Are there any questions Kristen Beireis : ? Eva Abreu : thank you Coach Kristen Kristen Beireis : Thank you for being here! Ginger Marks : should we be each other's check and balance? Sharilee Guest : Okay--- everyone can just ask me if I've taken time to be a Mom today or if I'm getting out of balance!?! Kristen Beireis : Great! Ginger Marks : When do we know we need a VA? Kristen Beireis : BEFORE you get overwhelmed and can't keep up. Kristen Beireis : When you start getting an inkling that it's coming. Kristen Beireis : When the consistency is starting to be more than you WANT to do. Ginger Marks : When do you know you need to let things go rather than hire a VA? What's the difference? Eva Abreu : will be signing off now, my 5 year old wants to play with the emoticons! off to take her to the playground now! bye ladies! Sharilee Guest : I have always been good at delegating the stuff I don't really like to do-- but I am learning to delegate the stuff I like-- in order to do things I like even more. Sharilee Guest : It's been so Awesome! Deena Gainor : Bye, Eva. Sharilee Guest : Bye! Ginger Marks : Sounds like Eva has her priorities straight. LOL Ginger Marks : bye Kristen Beireis : It's all about finding what you NEED and WANT in your business. Kristen Beireis : hehe Kristen Beireis : Have fun Eva Kristen Beireis : Again, priorities. Deena Gainor : Speaking of priorities...I also have to go. I can handle skipping lunch but the kids can't, lol! Kristen Beireis : If you really feel the Newsletter is important to your business... Kristen Beireis : you love writing it and you just don't want to sacrifice the blog stuff...then pass one off to a VA. Ginger Marks : so we have to decide if we want to have 20 blogs, and need them, or if they are getting overwhelming and need to be honed down. Deena Gainor : Thank you so much, Kristen! You're the best. Kristen Beireis : Have fun Deena, keep looking at your list. Kristen Beireis : Kristen Beireis : YW! Deena Gainor : Sharilee Guest : Great job, Kristen! Deena Gainor : Bye, all. Sharilee Guest : Good to 'see' everyone! Ginger Marks : Thanks Kristen Sharilee Guest : Bye-- Ginger Marks : bye Deena Kristen Beireis : YW! Kristen Beireis : K. Kristen Beireis : Sorry. it was so short. Ginger Marks : thanks. Ginger Marks : no problem Ginger Marks : appreciate you taking the time to put this together. Kristen Beireis : No problem. Kristen Beireis : It's always fun and it was a participatory group todya, which made it fun. Kristen Beireis : Ginger Marks : have a terrific week. Ginger Marks : yes, it was good. Kristen Beireis : You too! Hey.. Ginger Marks : ttyl Kristen Beireis : did you keep a copy of this? Ginger Marks : I will be saving and posting the text to the archive. Kristen Beireis : Cool, several lpeople pm'd.. Kristen Beireis : saying they couldn't make it... Kristen Beireis : if you could post the link on WIN, they'd appreciate it, I'm sure. Kristen Beireis :
