[Amanda Hamm] 1:02 pm: lol
[sandy] 1:02 pm: like torquise
[Amanda Hamm] 1:03 pm: While Ginger is away chasing down Linda, I guess I will ask a question. Do any of you know what Netiquette is?
[The Lounge]: Linda Alexander has entered at 1:03 pm
[Amanda Hamm] 1:03 pm: and there is Linda
[Linda Alexander] 1:03 pm: Well, now I understand why I was talking to myself in the other room!!
[Amanda Hamm] 1:03 pm: lol
[Amanda Hamm] 1:03 pm: we couldn't get in the room, it kicked us to the curb
[Linda Alexander] 1:03 pm: didn't get a lot done that way!
[sandy] 1:03 pm: net politness
[Amanda Hamm] 1:04 pm: Linda before you came in I asked does anyone know what Netiquette is?
[Linda Alexander] 1:04 pm: Ah, yes. I think Sandy just answered that one well.
[Amanda Hamm] 1:04 pm: Sandy you hit the nail on the head
[sandy] 1:05 pm: bowong
[Amanda Hamm] 1:05 pm: Today I will be talking or rather typing on how to use general Netiquette in your business to maintain customers and attract new ones
[sandy] 1:05 pm: lol
[Kim Emerson] 1:05 pm: (((((LINDA))))))
[Linda Alexander] 1:05 pm: Hello, Kim.
[Amanda Hamm] 1:06 pm: wb Kim
[Amanda Hamm] 1:06 pm: Online business is anonymous. It's all too easy to forget that there are actual persons -- not just faceless entities -- at the other end of those electronic transmissions. And that can be a huge customer service mistake.
[Kim Emerson] 1:06 pm: thanks Amanda.
[Amanda Hamm] 1:07 pm: Do you ever stop to think about how your customers will perceive your e-mail or your chat communication before you send it? How do they see your Web site? Online and off, showing consideration for your customers is the first rule of etiquette. But taking this common-sense approach in the cyber world can be harder than it seems. Mastering a few simple techniques will help prevent the misunderstandings that can reduce the profitability of your Web presence and improve both your service level and your customer satisfaction.
[sandy] 1:08 pm: all eyes
[GingerMarks] 1:08 pm: Linda, Here I am searching for you and you are here!
[GingerMarks] 1:08 pm: LOL
[Linda Alexander] 1:09 pm: Ginger, yep, I was talking to myself in the other room--not satisfying at lal.
[Kim Emerson] 1:09 pm: LOL Linda!
[sandy] 1:09 pm: hear ya linda
[GingerMarks] 1:09 pm: me too.
[Amanda Hamm] 1:10 pm: The first technique we will talk about is "Harnessing the Power of Emails"
[Kim Emerson] 1:10 pm: yay! Go Amanda!
[Amanda Hamm] 1:10 pm: E-mail has become one of the most popular and efficient means of communication in the business world. Unfortunately, because of its ease and convenience, there is a great deal of misuse and abuse associated with it." It's easy to lapse into the habit of writing informal, poorly structured e-mails. It's equally easy to assume that just because you can get someone's e-mail address, you are free to use it haphazardly.
[Amanda Hamm] 1:11 pm: The number one mistake that business owners do, is forgetting to spell check and using proper formating.
[The Lounge]: phsherri has entered at 1:11 pm
[Kim Emerson] 1:11 pm: Welcome Sherri!!!
[The Lounge]: Leanna has entered at 1:11 pm
[phsherri] 1:12 pm: hello ti thought it was me at the other chat room
[The Lounge]: Eula DeMasi has entered at 1:12 pm
[The Lounge]: GingerMarks has left at 1:12 pm
[The Lounge]: GingerMarks has left at 1:12 pm
[Kim Emerson] 1:12 pm: Welcome Leanna! Welcome Eula! yay, now we can partay
[Amanda Hamm] 1:12 pm: Get into the habbit of spell checking every single email you send , even if it's to a friend. That way when you send out business emails it's part of your thought process.
[Eula DeMasi] 1:12 pm: Hello all!
[Kim Emerson] 1:12 pm: :( Ginger got the boot
[sandy] 1:12 pm: that yellow is har on the eyes, sorry
[Linda Alexander] 1:12 pm: Amanda, good idea.
[Eula DeMasi] 1:13 pm: Ginger get back in here!!! LOL It's time to party
[Amanda Hamm] 1:13 pm: other tips include:
[Amanda Hamm] 1:13 pm: Reply as promptly to an e-mail as you would a phone call -- never more than 24 to 48 hours later.
[Amanda Hamm] 1:13 pm: Where possible, limit e-mails to 20 lines or less.
[Kim Emerson] 1:13 pm: Oh amen Amanda!
[Amanda Hamm] 1:14 pm: Use the subject line as a "hook" and keep it specific and interesting.
[phsherri] 1:14 pm: that is a good rule amanda
[Amanda Hamm] 1:14 pm: Include the text of earlier messages in replies for added convenience.
[Amanda Hamm] 1:14 pm: Never use all capitals, the electronic equivalent of shouting, or all lower-case letters, which equates to whispering.
[sandy] 1:14 pm: yep
[Amanda Hamm] 1:14 pm: Ensure that your e-mail includes a proper salutation, closing, and signature.
[phsherri] 1:14 pm: yes i hate when i have to track down another email to firgure out what we are talking about
[Amanda Hamm] 1:15 pm: Remember that there is no such thing as a confidential e-mail -- post on the Internet only what you would post on your company bulletin board.
[Linda Alexander] 1:15 pm: I don't like to have to figure out the context, either, but I find that using clips of other messages is not conducive to free thinking for me.
[Amanda Hamm] 1:16 pm: Above all, remember that good Netiquette is about fostering two-way communication. Customer contact, in whatever medium, is all about dialogue. Connecting with your customers develops trust and helps you resolve conflicts. Personalizing contact, so that you engage your customers, is critical. Especially with e-mail, it is important that your readers feel that messages are directed to them personally. Bear in mind that customer service is sales-oriented, and treat each customer contact, whether by e-mail, old-fashioned mail, or telephone, as an opportunity to build a lasting relationship.
[The Lounge]: Tammy AKA Audio Diva has entered at 1:16 pm
[Kim Emerson] 1:16 pm: Linda, I hit reply. That solves the issue for me, then if they want they can scroll down and review
[Kim Emerson] 1:16 pm: ((((Tammy))))
[Tammy AKA Audio Diva] 1:16 pm: hi
[Amanda Hamm] 1:16 pm: I'm trying to type as quickly as possible here ladies, so if you have any questions or comments feel free to make them and I will go back and answer them in between techniques.
[Tammy AKA Audio Diva] 1:16 pm: ((((((Kim)))))
[Linda Alexander] 1:16 pm: Kim, I agree. That's how I prefer it, too.
[sandy] 1:17 pm: i always have repply before privious msg
[Amanda Hamm] 1:17 pm: On to the next technique "Evil Sales and Returns"
[Amanda Hamm] 1:18 pm: Most business owners view returns and problems as just another necessary evil in business. Successful online merchants realize that these are just two additional opportunities to sell the customer on the merits of their business. Again, etiquette is key to providing both goods and services. Whether online or in a brick-and-mortar business, there will always be customers who return a soiled blouse, or who waste hours discussing a contract only to cancel in the end. Client expectations and limitations are best established in the beginning.
[Kim Emerson] 1:18 pm:  return
[sandy] 1:19 pm: hehe
[Amanda Hamm] 1:19 pm: In short, use your Web site to give your customers information that they can really use. "Some companies have Web sites that inform but don't communicate; others have Web sites that communicate but don't inform, "In today's e-commerce, you must have both to connect with your customers."
[Amanda Hamm] 1:19 pm: You can do this by:
[The Lounge]: Linda Alexander has left at 1:20 pm
[Amanda Hamm] 1:20 pm: A clear listing of all terms and policies concerning privacy, sales, shipping, delivery, return, and exchange. (For best results, ask customers to indicate that they have reviewed and accepted these conditions as part of the sales process.)
[The Lounge]: Linda Alexander has entered at 1:20 pm
[Amanda Hamm] 1:20 pm: A list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) that your customers might have, together with answers.
[Amanda Hamm] 1:20 pm: A Help section with detailed explanations about any procedure that your customer might need to follow.
[The Lounge]: Katherine Reschke has entered at 1:20 pm
[Amanda Hamm] 1:20 pm: Contact information to help your customers reach you by e-mail, snail mail, and toll-free telephone.
[Kim Emerson] 1:20 pm: ((((Katherine))))
[Katherine Reschke] 1:21 pm: Hi all
[Katherine Reschke] 1:21 pm: sorry I am late!
[Amanda Hamm] 1:21 pm: A "live help" button to "chat" with a customer service representative in real time. Or an audio clip of your sales procedures and guidlines.
[The Lounge]: Leanna has left at 1:21 pm
[Amanda Hamm] 1:22 pm: And lastly but not least our last technique "Looking Forward"
[sandy] 1:22 pm: these r evils , rijght?
[Amanda Hamm] 1:22 pm: The Internet provides outstanding opportunities for marketing and for serving your customers. These opportunities will continue to grow as technology improves and becomes more widely adopted. But the challenges of this new frontier will continue to grow as well.
[Amanda Hamm] 1:23 pm: The sales and returns are "evils"
[sandy] 1:23 pm: k
[Amanda Hamm] 1:23 pm: reason being is that most business owners cannot harness the "customer service" aspect
[Amanda Hamm] 1:24 pm: The rules of Netiquette are still evolving, and will continue to do so; but learning to navigate the Net politely is not as hard as it may seem. Simply remember that offline rules apply online.
[Amanda Hamm] 1:24 pm: Here's a short list of them:
[Amanda Hamm] 1:24 pm: What you wouldn't do offline, you shouldn't do online. And just because you would do it offline doesn't mean that you should.
[The Lounge]: LisaG. has entered at 1:25 pm
[Amanda Hamm] 1:25 pm: Never interrupt Internet conversations in chat rooms or newsgroups to "plug" your product or service.
[Kim Emerson] 1:25 pm: (((Lisa)))

[LisaG.] 1:25 pm: Hi

[LisaG.] 1:26 pm: Glad I saw post at ryze, tried to get in Av room ugh
[Amanda Hamm] 1:26 pm: Yes, those join this network things, are spam. And just because someone acts interested in your product doesn't mean that they want your brochure.
[The Lounge]: Tammy AKA Audio Diva has left at 1:27 pm
[Amanda Hamm] 1:27 pm: Never tell "white lies" about your business. Be honest. Even online those "white lies" will catch up to you.
[The Lounge]: Ginger Marks has left at 1:27 pm
[Amanda Hamm] 1:27 pm: Be ready and prepared at all times to talk about your business.
[Amanda Hamm] 1:28 pm: Never tell a potential customer that you don't know the answer. Always tell them that you will find out and report back to them.
[Amanda Hamm] 1:29 pm: And always, always, keep a smile on your face when talking to a customer, potential customer, or when talking about your business.
[Amanda Hamm] 1:29 pm: That concludes my presentation, now I will open the floor up to any questions, comments, and concerns.
